A crowd gathered at Noreuil Park for the finish of the 68-kilometre event, which combined a 34-kilometre cycle, an eight k run, and a 26 k kayak. But before the individual winner, kayaking veteran Tony Zerbst stormed home as Murray High claimed the teams' title. Murray High posted three hours and 15 minutes, Zerbst praising his team-mates. "I really just had to maintain what they had establised with the lead, with a nice clear river ahead of me, and no-one around, I could settle into a rhythm." And just eight minutes later, Ian Franzke grabbed one of his finest wins. Franzke posted just under two hours for the kayak leg, highlighting his versatility in the multi-sport events. And John King was just one minute behind. Shula Webb and Liz Hilton grabbed the top two placings in the women's event. Meanwhile, Noreuil Park also hosted the criterium. And it too proved extremely popular with the bikes reaching terrific speeds around the picturesque circuit. The cycling was just one of a number of highlights over the weekend, with 13 disciplines comprising Albury City's third MAC event. After a tiring race, the bell lap resulted in a last-lap dash, and officials were again happy with the crowds to watch the cycling. And officials were also happy with entries, with around 1,000 contesting the events.
