A Dubbo freight bottleneck lasting more than a decade has come to an end.
A state first trial will see trucks able to carry heavier loads from Fletchers' International along
World freight was revolutionised by the introduction of the 20 foot shipping container.
Packed full of goods they could be freighted by road or rail to export ports, the standardised system boosted productivity across the board.
In recent years the 40 foot container has become the standard, but there's a catch.
On roads such as Yarrandale it's illegal to transport fully laden forty footers, even though the plant wants to take them just 600 metres to be loaded onto trains at the rail freight interchange.
Up until now 40 footers had to be exported with plenty of spare room, or two 20’s had to be used, that means Dubbo meat exports were costing more and potentially pricing themselves out of the market.
