The Killarney Abbatoir and Pittsworth Food Processors were this morning ordered to suspend kills.
The companies are owned by Leitch Pastoral Group.
Killarney Abbatoir has 130 staff, with a further 110 employed at Pittsworth.
They're the largest employers in those areas
Each facility kills up to two thousand livestock a day.
A company spokesman says they have not gone into receivership, that the suspension was a directive from management in Brisbane due to operational circumstances.
Those issues include livestock support, debtor credits and staff management.
A meeting will be held on Friday to determine the future of both facilities, with the possibility that they may reopen next week.
Leitch Pastoral Group also owns Condamine River Meats.
