Investigators are still searching for answers to discover what caused a mid-air collision between two helicopters near Orange late last year.
A chopper involved in fighting a bushfire east of Orange in December suffered major damage to its tail but managed to land safely.
The preliminary report of the Transport Safety Bureau examined the damage to the vertical fin of this Forestry chopper.
The pilot told the inquiry he felt a sudden jolt as he released a bucket of water onto the fire, and then saw a yellow object flash past the left hand side of the chopper.
The inquiry found no signs of damage to the main rotor wing of the other chopper which was working nearby at the time
