Hey Hey It's Saturday is Australia's longest running variety television programme. Spanning over 28 years, it made its debut on 9 October ,1971 as a Saturday morning children's TV Show with Host Daryl Somers and his sidekick Ossie Ostrich providing small comedic segments between cartoons.
The shows ratings grew during the seventies and it transformed into more of a live entertainment, comedy and variety show. Regular segments such as Red Faces, Chook Lotto, Plucka Duck, Molly's Melodrama, Ad Nauseum, Beat It, Lost For Words, Magic Word, Masterslime, Media Watch Press, The Great Aussie Joke, The Nixon Tapes, Celebrity Head and Spoofs provided light-hearted laughs that appealed to its mass audience. The show went from strength-to-strength with the adoption of popular presenter Jacki McDonald in 1979.
Hey Hey It's Saturday continued airing on Australian screens until 20 November, 1999. Leaving a large hole in Australian television in mid 2009 it was announced that Daryl would return to create two reunion shows titled Hey Hey It's Saturday: The Reunion.
Due to enormous success, reuniting the entire cast and bringing back good old fashioned humour to our screens for the first time in almost a decade the entertainment juggernaut will bounce into the new millennium with a series of exciting new shows and a kaleidoscope of guests both new and old.
