RPA: Series Return

This week on RPA Wednesday, February 24, at 8.30pm on WIN.

The award-winning medical reality program, RPA, returns for its 16th series in 2010 with more captivating stories about ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges being treated by the dedicated staff at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

From the emergency ward through to surgery and recovery, watch real-life drama unfold as stories of inspiring bravery play out every week on RPA – like the four you will meet in the series return on Wednesday, February 24, at 8.30pm.

Fiona’s courage:

Fiona, 28, was due to be married late last year but had to postpone her dream wedding after nagging hip pain was diagnosed as something much more sinister than aching muscles. Doctors discovered Ewings Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. Tonight in the first part of her incredible story, Fiona is told that she has to have her pelvis removed, blasted with radiation, then put back again in a massive operation.

Alla’s lonely fall:

Eighty-nine-year-old widow Alla is rushed to RPA’s Emergency Department after having a fall at home at four in the afternoon. She lay helpless on her kitchen floor until friends found her the next morning. Alla is in terrible pain and doctors need to scan her from head to toe to find out what damage has been done.

Patricia’s weight loss legacy:

Four years ago, at the age of 37, Patricia weighed a hefty 155 kilos. When she realised her only chance for a healthy future was to lose weight, she embarked on an extraordinary fitness and healthy eating routine and lost a massive 81 kilos. The weight loss changed her life but left her with a huge apron of excess skin which creates a whole new set of problems. She hopes surgery will complete her amazing battle with obesity.

Mikael’s shock diagnosis:

Mikael, 28, arrives in Emergency complaining of severe testicular pain. An ultrasound reveals a mango-sized tumour in his right testicle and he learns it is most probably cancer. That means urgent surgery to remove his testicle.

RPA is narrated by Australian actor and artist, Max Cullen.
