Car Seat Rush
Tuesday 9, Feb 2010
Tuesday 9, Feb 2010
From March eleven it's no longer infants who need approved child restraints.
It will be law for all children up to seven years of age, or who weighs up to twenty six kilos to be correctly restrained.
A booster seat and five point harness considered a much safer option for littlies.
Known as sub-marining, slipping under the seatbelt can obviously have dire consequences
Normal adult seat belts also pose a risk to young children, dramatically increasing internal and abdominal injuries.
While you can't put a price on a child's life, for some families this an expensive legislation. Local politicians receiving numerous complaints about people being forced to buy larger, more expensive vehicles to be able to fit the bulky booster seats.
But the alternatives are worse.
And there's a three hundred dollar fine and three demerit points for anyone who doesn't comply.
You can find out more about the legislation on the Queensland transport website, while the QAS, RACQ and some baby stores offer a fitting service.
