Community Health Task Force wages war
Thursday 28, Jan 2010

These men and women are the Fraser Coast's biggest hope for the future of the region's health services.

"You've got nothing to fear from the task force, as long as what you're saying is true. But if i find out that what you're putting out there is rubbish than we will say so and we will say so in Parliament and to the Minister." says Chris Foley.

Forged by the Member for Maryborough,

the Community Health Task Force held its inaugural meeting last night.

The 'creme del la creme' of local medical big wigs on a mission to create a better health safety-net for residents.

"You've got spin doctors who are very good at making things sound good and for me not being a medical professional it's hard to have to wade through all that." says Foley.

A State Government clinical analysis is currently underway on the operational relationship between Maryborough and Hervey Bay Hospitals.

The Task Force is planning on dissecting its findings,

as well as developing their own.

"We're going to ground-truth everything that's said." says Foley.

The Chamber of Commerce suggests a locally appointed health board may better serve the local population.

"We could provide some specialist health services in each of our areas so that the whole region can benefit." says Lance Stone from the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce.

While the many resident's who've been forced to travel to Brisbane and back for treatment may disagree, the task force members say it's not too late to cure the region's ailing health services.

"We gotta start somewhere and we've gotta work on it that's out job to make sure that we do get those things for the community." says Hervey Bay MP, Ted Sorensen

The Task Force is eagerly awaiting the report and a visit from the Health Minister, expected in February.
