When the family went to cross Black Duck Creek the roadway was dry.
But before they had reached the other side a wall of water came towards them,
knocking the car into the creek.
Travelling in the vehicle was fourteen year old Dalton, his younger brother Declan and mother Vanessa.
Husband Scott was travelling in another car close behind and was able to help his wife and youngest son to safety but tragically couldn't save Dalton.
Fighting the torrent of water was almost impossible for the teenager.
He was severely injured by a gas cylinder explosion earlier in his life and was in a wheel chair.
His body was located some two kilometres down stream three hours after the accident occurred.
Family members say the teen loved riding motorbikes and just last week had a belated fourteenth birthday party having just recovered from an operation.
