Red Bend College at Forbes is demanding the State Government supply a fifth bus for Parkes based students.
Many currently have to stand for their entire bus journey between the two towns.
Representatives from the state transport department were left in no doubt about the seriousness of the problem, following a meeting at the school this morning.
Getting to school at Red Bend College in Forbes is increasingly dangerous for many Parkes based students who are forced to stand on buses between the two centres.
Twelve thousand vehicles travel the busy Newell Highway each day at one hundred kilometres an hour plus. At that speed, even the slightest swerve could be catestophic for students standing in the aisle.
Yet, thirty students are forced to do just that each day, going to and from school.
Red Bend College Principal, Bother John Hilet said the college has 240 students coming across from Parkes daily on the affected buses.
"This probably amounts to 140 families and I have received about 100 letters of concern. So that's two thirds of the parents from Parkes have written to me concerned for the safety of their sons and daughters," he said.
Member for Dubbo Dawn Fardell says the situation is unacceptable and a transport department official who attended today's meeting at Red Bend College travelled behind one of the buses to personally guage the danger.
Ms Fardell has been vigorously pushing Red Bend's case at ministerial level.
"Well, last week I was asked by the Minister for Transport's office from a member there what do we need. I said another bus, simply another bus, not another report, but another bus," she said.
Robert Lea has two children who are forced to stand on the bus beween Parkes and Forbes.
"Even hard braking can cause a domino effect with the kids cascading down the bus, let alone a serious accident," he said.
Brother Hilet said he would hate it to be that it requires an accident for a decision to be taken.
