John has presented the weeknight news for WIN since 2000. For the preceding eight years he was WIN’s weekend news reader.
John’s broadcasting career began in Hobart in 1970 when he joined ABC Radio. His first television news bulletin was in 1974 and he became a full time television newsreader in 1985 until he left the ABC in 1991. After a ten-month break he joined, what is now, WIN Television.
John’s long career in the media has presented him with interesting opportunities. In 1983 he worked for a short stint overseas on Blue Danube Radio in Vienna.
The Better Hearing Association in Tasmania conducted clear speech awards for television newsreaders for a number of years and John was an award winner for 12 of those.
John has also been able to successfully combine real estate with his media career and has been a real estate practitioner and auctioneer since 1991.
“Broadcasting is my first love and I’m pleased that I can comfortably do both. I appreciate the variety in my life and being busy. I’m very lucky to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds.”
John’s interests, outside work, include fine food and wine, computers, photography and he also holds a Private Pilots Licence.
