Darwin Technology and Channel Upgrades
WIN Network Announces Technology Upgrades and Channel Lineup Refresh for Darwin Viewers
The WIN Network has announced upcoming technology enhancements to its Nine signal in Darwin, scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
As part of WIN’s ongoing investment in modern broadcasting infrastructure, all remaining standard-definition (MPEG-2) channels will transition to the modern MPEG-4 format, and legacy MPEG-2 simulcasts will be retired. The upgrade delivers improved picture quality, enhanced signal efficiency, and greater flexibility for future Free-to-Air programming.
Updated Channel Lineup (LCNs)
To streamline the viewing experience, the WIN Network will also adjust its Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs) in Darwin as follows:
- Channel 9 & 90: 9HD
- Channel 91: 9Gem HD
- Channel 92: 9Go!
- Channel 93: 9Life
What Viewers Need to Do
- Auto-Tune / Re-Scan Recommended: While many modern TVs automatically detect updates, viewers are encouraged to run a quick Auto-Tune or Re-Scan via their television settings on or after 23 September to ensure all channels map correctly.
- Compatibility Check: Televisions purchased within the last 10 years are generally MPEG-4 compatible. Viewers who currently receive Channels 90, 95, or 99 will experience a seamless transition and require no new equipment.
- Older Televisions: Viewers using televisions over 10 years old that cannot receive MPEG-4 signals can continue watching WIN Nine channels by attaching an inexpensive MPEG-4 digital set-top box (available at local electronics retailers for approximately $50–$100) or upgrading to a newer television.
This transition aligns with broader industry-wide modernization across Australian Free-to-Air television, ensuring viewers across the region enjoy optimal audio and visual quality.
